    Key highlights
    • 18 Holes “Fontainebleau” – Par 72 – 6 004 m

Nestled in the historic forest of Fontainebleau, this Tom Simpson-designed 18-hole course is one of France’s most beautiful and prestigious layouts. With sandy soil, natural rock outcrops, and rolling fairways lined with birch and pine trees, it offers a peaceful and strategic golf experience, just an hour from Paris. A timeless gem for purists and nature lovers.

Opened in 1909 and redesigned in 1920 by the legendary Tom Simpson, the Golf de Fontainebleau is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and classic golf courses in France. Located in the heart of the Forêt de Fontainebleau, just 70 kilometers southeast of Paris, the course is surrounded by ancient oak, pine, and silver birch trees, and features striking natural elements such as sandy terrain, heather, and dramatic rock formations.

The 18-hole, par-72 course stretches over 6,000 meters and offers a truly strategic and picturesque round. Simpson’s design cleverly integrates the forest’s topography, with undulating fairways, blind tee shots, subtle doglegs, and small, sloping greens. Accuracy and course management are essential, as the fairways are tight and the greens well-guarded. Despite its relatively modest length, the course consistently challenges even the most skilled players.

What sets Fontainebleau apart is its atmosphere of timeless elegance and immersion in nature. The combination of strategic design and scenic beauty creates a tranquil, almost spiritual golf experience. It’s no surprise that the course is consistently ranked among the top 5 in France and frequently features in lists of Europe’s best.

The club itself reflects understated sophistication, with a traditional French clubhouse, refined dining, and a culture of discretion. It remains a private members’ club, with access generally reserved for members and their guests, which contributes to its exclusive ambiance and pristine conditions year-round.

For golfers seeking authenticity, heritage, and challenge in one of France’s most enchanting natural settings, Golf de Fontainebleau is an unforgettable destination — a living testament to early 20th-century course architecture.

The main course is a traditional parkland-style layout, defined by its narrow, tree-lined fairways, strategic doglegs, and beautifully sculpted bunkers. The greens are fast and subtle, requiring a confident short game, and the overall routing rewards players who can shape their shots and plan ahead. The course’s peaceful, natural setting belies its tournament pedigree. Although the layout is relatively flat, the design’s intelligence lies in its simplicity, with natural hazards and course management playing central roles. Key highlights
    • 18 Holes “La Mer” – Par 72 – 6 307 m

A masterpiece by Colt & Alison, “La Mer” is a true links course set in the dunes of northern France. Host to multiple French Opens, it offers wide, windswept fairways, deep bunkers, and stunning coastal views. A championship layout with character, history, and raw beauty, just minutes from Le Touquet's elegant seaside town.

Inaugurated in 1931, the “La Mer” course at Le Touquet Golf Resort is a rare links-style layout in France, carved through windswept dunes by the legendary British architects Harry Colt and Charles Alison. This 18-hole, par-72 course, measuring 6,307 meters, is considered one of the finest seaside courses in continental Europe.

The layout has a distinctly British feel, with rolling fairways, natural bunkering, and panoramic views of the surrounding pine forests and sand dunes. The ever-present coastal wind is both a challenge and an integral part of the course’s identity. The front nine opens with long, flowing holes, while the back nine becomes more technical, especially around the greens.

Strategically placed bunkers and subtle elevation changes require players to master distance control and creativity. Although it can be played by mid-level golfers, “La Mer” becomes a formidable test from the back tees, earning its reputation as a former host of the French Open (six times between 1976 and 1992).

The course underwent a full restoration in the 2010s, guided by the original Colt plans, recovering the authenticity and design philosophy of its golden age. The result is a course that feels both historic and modern, with firm playing conditions and true links character.

Facilities include a large clubhouse, hotel, driving range, and two other courses: “La Forêt” (18 holes) and “Le Manoir” (9 holes), offering a complete golf destination in one of France’s most elegant seaside towns.

    Key highlights
    • 18 holes Dunes course

    • 18 holes Les Pins course

Set in the pine forests near the northern French coast, Golf d’Hardelot offers two exceptional 18-hole courses. The historic Les Pins course by Tom Simpson is a classic of European architecture, while Les Dunes adds variety and modern flair. A favorite among purists and tournament players, Hardelot blends challenge, beauty, and seaside charm.

Located just south of Boulogne-sur-Mer, in the heart of the Côte d’Opale, the Golf d’Hardelot is one of the most respected and scenic golfing destinations in northern France. The club offers two contrasting 18-hole courses: Les Pins, a historic masterpiece by Tom Simpson, and Les Dunes, a more modern layout designed by Paul Rollin in 1991.

Les Pins, opened in 1934, is widely considered one of Simpson’s finest works. Set within a tranquil pine forest, this par-71 course offers narrow fairways, natural shaping, and subtle doglegs that demand precision and thoughtful strategy. The routing flows harmoniously with the terrain, and the sandy soil provides excellent year-round playing conditions. Recently renovated to restore Simpson’s original design principles, Les Pins is a benchmark of classic golf architecture in Europe.

Les Dunes, by contrast, offers a more dynamic and modern golfing experience. With more open landscapes, water hazards, and bold elevation changes, it presents a varied test that complements its older sibling. While slightly shorter than Les Pins, Les Dunes still rewards shot-making and creativity, especially on its visually dramatic par 3s and risk-reward par 5s.

The club’s facilities include a modern clubhouse with panoramic views, a well-equipped pro shop, and a high-quality restaurant. Practice areas are comprehensive, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed yet refined. Its proximity to the Channel Tunnel and other top courses like Le Touquet makes Hardelot a key stop on any northern France golf itinerary.

For players seeking history, architectural pedigree, and diversity of play in a stunning natural setting, Golf d’Hardelot offers one of the most complete and rewarding golf experiences in France.
