Originally opened in 1904, the course was completely redesigned in 2013 by Cabell B. Robinson in collaboration with European Golf Design to meet the standards of a major championship. The 18-hole, par-72 course stretches over 6,595 meters and unfolds across a dramatic alpine setting. The layout features rolling fairways, elevated tees, and greens that are fast, firm, and complex — often sloping toward or away from Lake Geneva, requiring careful reading and precise putting. Water comes into play on several holes, notably the par-3 5th and the risk-reward par-5 18th, one of the most photographed finishing holes in women’s golf.

Established in 1934, the Golf Club de Chamonix began as a modest 4-hole course, expanding to 9 holes by 1935. Recognizing the potential for a world-class golfing venue, the municipality initiated an expansion to 18 holes in the 1970s. Renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. was commissioned to redesign the course, culminating in the inauguration of the full 18-hole layout in 1982. The course spans 6077 meters with a par of 72, offering a harmonious blend of playability and challenge.

Set against the backdrop of the Mont Blanc massif, the course is characterized by its relatively flat terrain, a rarity in alpine regions. Jones expertly utilized the natural contours of the land, integrating subtle elevation changes, strategic bunkers, and water hazards to enhance the playing experience. Notably, the 17th hole offers a stunning view of the north face of Mont Blanc and the Bossons glacier, providing both a visual treat and a memorable challenge.

The club boasts comprehensive practice facilities, including a 32-station driving range (14 covered), two putting greens, and a pitching green.
